How has the colonial encounter transformed the societies of the
colonizer and the colonized? What are the legacies of colonialism in
postcolonial societies? How has colonialism structured the way we see
and represent ourselves and others? This course investigates Nordic
colonial enterprises, examining the relationship between the
Scandinavian “center” and colonial peripheries ranging from the Arctic
to the Caribbean, Africa, and India. We will also work with
postcolonial criticism and theory, applying these approaches to our
study of colonial and postcolonial cultures and literatures. INTC
