» Yoshi Jinzaki represented Epsilon Sigma at the Mu Phi Epsilon International Convention at Rochester, NY between August 10th and 13th. As a collegiate delegate he was amongst the members of the Resolutions Committee which revised some of its bylaws. Yoshi participated in the Libby Larsen Choir at the convention performing Larsen's Sweet and Sour Nursery Rhymes. Dr. Gina Gillie accompanied the choir on the horn.
» Dr. Gina Gillie and Jonathan Young (Epsilon Sigma Alumnus) competed in the finals at the Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition prior to the convention. Unfortunately neither of our fabulous alumni won this competition. They were competing with three other outstanding artists whom were selected by a panel of judges. The winner of this year's competition was Ms. Yukiko Sekino, pianist and a member of the Boston Alumni Chapter. Congratulations Ms. Sekino.
» The most important moment of the convention took place during a business meeting on August 13th. A proposal was made to the International Executive Board to establish a 6th vice president whom will be a collegiate liaison to the Board. This liaison will be representing the collegiate chapters at board meetings, and working with the board. Further details will be announced at the first meeting.

» Epsilon-Sigma would like to thank the seniors whom graduated this past academic year: Kirsten Kamna, Hope Evans, Michael Lasfetto, Daniel Baskin, and Emily Haight for their service in Mu Phi throughout this past year. Congratulations on graduating and we wish you the best!
» Epsilon-Sigma initiated four new candidates back in May. Their names are Megan Anderson, Stephanie Bivins, Anna Kosatka, and Kristen Monk. Congratulations!
» Yoshiaki Jinzaki will be representing Epsilon-Sigma at the Mu Phi Epsilon Convention at Rochester, NY in August. Dr. Gillie will be taking part in the convention through the competition.
» Megan Anderson, Stephanie Bivins, Kirsten Kamna, and Yoshiaki Jinzaki went on a tour to Germany and France with Pacific Lutheran University's Choir of the West. Some of the highlights of this tour included singing at a church which celebrated its 700th anniversary, competing in the Harmonie Festival in Lindenholzhausen, Germany, and singing at the Madeleine and Chatres Cathedral in France.

» Mu Phi members thank you for paying your dues on time. I thank all of you for being flexible.
» November 13th is our Founder's Day Luncheon. We will be celebrating the founding of our fraternity with the Tacoma Alumni Chapter. Students whom are thinking of performing this venue should email Kirsten or Dr. Gillie their pieces.

Hi Epsilon Sigma members!! The academic school year is just around the corner but I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. I have a couple of announcements to make.
» Daniel Baskin (Choirister 2008~2009) got married on July 16th in Queensanne, WA to Amanda Noyes. Michael and I were happy to be there. Michael was Daniel's bestman and gave a great speech on his friendship with Daniel over the four years they've spent together. It was heartwarming and reminded me of our fraternity's philosophy on friendship. I was one of Daniel's groomsmen with Daniel's older brother. The couple is happy and I would like to congratulate the two of them. Daniel will be student teaching in the fall and graduate with a BME in December 2010.
» Professor Habedank (Faculty Advisor ~2010) was appointed to the Chairman of Board of Directors at the Annual Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation Meeting in Kirtland, OH. She would be in charge of leading the annual board meetings. She recently visited Rochester, NY with other Board Directors to look for a venue for the Mu Phi Epsilon International Competition 2011. » On August 14th, 2010 Emily Haight, Kirsten Kamna and Yoshi Jinzaki performed in the PLU Summer Opera Workshop performance in the Lagerquist Concert Hall at 3pm. Emily sang the role of Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Kirsten sang a variety of roles for this performance. We can definitely tell her affinity for opera. She sang the roles of Susanna from Le Nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frasquita from Georges Bizet's Carmen, and also Ophelia from Thomas Ambrose's Hamlet. Kirsten's Ophelia was the finale of the show and people loved her scene a lot. Congratulations to Emily and Kirsten for their hard work and successful performance. Yoshiaki Jinzaki sang the role of Nemorino from L'Elisir d'Amore by Gaetano Donizetti and also the Newspaper Collector from A Streetcar named Desire by André Previn. I got a lot of compliments, encouragement and comments from the audience about my performance and a lot of people enjoyed my performance.

» Hi all I hope you are enjoying your summers. There is one announcement I would like to make. National has posted up information about the International Competition in 2011. It will be held in Rochester, New York at the Eastman School of Music. This competition provides opportunities for young artists to perform in professional concerts and promote Mu Phi Epsilon. The winner will be given a two-year contract for expense-paid concert/recital appearances sponsored by the Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation and its Chapters. In addition this artist will be giving a solo recital at the 2011 International Convention, local and national publicity, an honorarium for each performance, presentation of community service programs, and lastly will receive a Claudette Sorel cash award of $500. The competition is open to all instruments and voice types. The applicant needs to be a dues-paying member of Mu Phi Epsilon as of Februrary 2011 and initiated before December 1st, 2010. The applicant needs to be under the age of 35 as of April 1st, 2011 and the applicant must have solo recital experience and/or with an orchestra. » I would like to proudly announce our new faculty advisor Dr.Gina Gillie's marriage to Dr.Justin Lytle who is a Chemistry professor at PLU. We wish her a happy marriage and congratulations.
» We would like to thank Professor Jonathan Young for his year long commitment to Pacific Lutheran University as University Organist and Visiting Senior Lecturer teaching Ear Training and Music History I, and also his participation in performances with Mu Phi Epsilon. It was a great year for young Mu Phis to see alumni come back to share their Mu Phi spirit with us. We hope to hear great news from Professor Young as he continues his doctoral work. He is a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois.
» Kirsten Kamna (Mu Phi Epsilon Epsilon Sigma President 2009~2010) is going to Astoria, OR soon to participate in opera scenes and sing in a sacred music concert. Kirsten will be singing in the Summer Opera Workshop and Semele next J-term. In the Summer Opera Workshop she will be performing scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A.Mozart and Hamlet by Ambroise Thomas.
» Michael Lasfetto (Mu Phi Treasurer 2009) is going to be participating in a band workshop this summer in Illinois. He will be student teaching in the fall at Edgemont Junior High School in Puyallup, WA. We wish him success as he continues in his passion for education of young musicians.
» Daniel Baskin (Mu Phi Chorister 2008~2009) will be getting married to Amanda Noyes in July and he is also student teaching in the fall at Shorewood High School in Seattle, WA. We wish him a happy marriage and a successful student teaching.
» Christine Prindle (Mu Phi President 2008) graduated on May 28th, 2010 with a Bachelors of Music Education with an Orchestral emphasis. She will be substituting for schools as a teacher and is hoping to pursue a Master's of Music in Violin Performance after a year of substituting for schools. Congratulations Christine and we hope you will continue to pursue your passion in Violin performance.
» Emily Haight (Mu Phi Vice President 2009~2010) was cast as Semele for PLU Opera Workshop's production of Handel's opera Semele. She is also going to be participating in the Summer Opera Workshop in August. She will be performing scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro by W.A.Mozart. She will be finishing her degree in Decemeber 2010 with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance. Her passion and contribution to Choir of the West and as Mu Phi has and will continue to be a delight!
» Angela Conley recently passed her Sophomore Jury for the Bachelors of Music Education with a Choral Emphasis. Congratulations!! These juries are pretty hard and nerve racking I hear...She is also singing in the Summer Opera Workshop and in Semele next J-term. She will be singing scenes from L'enfant et les Sortileges by Maurice Ravel and The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan.
» Hope Evans (Mu Phi Secretary 2010) had her Junior Recital in April.
» Dr.Ronning (Associate Professor of Music) recently performed for Trinity Lutheran Church with David Dahl (Organist). He performed Scandinavian music written for Violin and Organ by Ole Bull, David Dahl, Hans-Olav Lien, Oskar Lindberg, Johan Hemlich Roman, and Jean Sibelius. He performed also with the Regency String Quartet. They performed String Quartet No.2 by Bohuslav Martinů. Other engagements will be later announced.
» Dr.Tegels (University Organist and Associate Professor of Music) is in Germany and The Netherlands. Dr.Tegels is visiting Professor Bert Matter. He'll be back with us in the fall.
» Professor Habedank is preparing a two concerts with Nancy Hart ,a local soprano, in Montana. Along with being Chapter Advisor for Epsilon-Sigma she has maintained her position as Vice Chairman for the Board of Directors for the Mu Phi Epsilon National Foundation. She will be attending an annual meeting during August 2~5 in Cleveland, Ohio.
» Yoshiaki Jinzaki (Mu Phi Epsilon Historian/Web Page Manager 2009~2010 Treasurer 2010) was cast as Apollo for Semele. He is also going to be participating in the Summer Opera Workshop. He will be singing scenes from L'elisir d'amore by Gaetono Donizetti and A Streetcar Named Desire by Andre Previn.

» I would like to congratulate and thank Professor Habedank for her hard and generous hours she spent serving as Faculty Advisor to Mu Phi Epsilon Epsilon-Sigma Chapter. Professor Habedank will continue to be involved in our activities in the years to come as Chapter Advisor.
» The Mu Phi Foundation will be hosting their 2011 Mu Phi Epsilon Competition in Rochester, New York on August 9th, 2011. Details about the competition such as repertoire requirement and application requirements will be posted on July 1st, 2010. I'll give you a heads up on further information in July.

» Finally, we have solved some technical difficulties we had for ages. I apologize for the delay and I glad to conclude the end of the academic school year with our website being updated for prospective students and national to see.
» We had great success with our Spring Concert and we have yet to advertise our concerts, t-shirts and any other event that we'd be doing in the future.
» Christine Prindle, Mu Phi President 2008~2009, is our Sterling Achievement Award winner for the Chapter. We wish her luck as she finishes her degree in Music Education with Orchestral Emphasis.

Hello Mu Phi its March and its gotten chilly again...anyway we have updates on the Belfair Concert.
» Mu Phi will be performing at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair, WA on April 17th, 2010. We'll be performing in the afternoon. The church choir will be performing so remember music, friendship and harmony!!
» We have been longing for a Retirement Home concert and it looks like we may have it on May 28th, 2010. Please check your calendars. I believe that its after finals so we should all perform.
» Please keep track of your service hours.

Hi to everyone. I am writing on behalf of Mu Phi Epsilon here at PLU. I hope you are all enjoying your J-term. I have updated our website for check under events for information.
First, all whom are interested in being initiated this spring. Please talk to Emily Haight or Kirsten Kamna. We will be doing our initiation in the Tower Chapel.
Secondly, we will start meetings again when spring semester begins. Please make sure to check the Mu Phi board for dates.
