Haley, a business major with an emphasis in marketing and a communication minor, joined MediaLab in Fall 2011. Haley’s particular interests include marketing, public relations, advertising and event planning. Through MediaLab, Haley worked with the Korean Women&rwquo;s Association on social media, e–marketing, and event coordination projects. She served as a senior producer for MediaLab’s award–winning 2013 documentary, “Tapped Out: Unearthing the Global Water Crisis.” And, she served as MediaLab’s Assistant General Manager during Spring 2013 prior to being promoted to lead the organization in Summer 2013. Outside of MediaLab, Haley held several internships that allowed her to strengthen her skills in marketing and PR, including a digital communication internship with the PLU Office of Development and a marketing internship with the Law Offices of Cynthia Anne Kennedy, PLLC. Haley also worked as Marketing and Promotions Intern for the PLU Department of Athletics and as a Marketing Intern during Spring 2014 for the Premier Media Group of Tacoma, publishers of South Sound, 425 and other magazines. Haley’s career pursuits after PLU include marketing research and eventually graduate school and an MBA.
Kortney, a Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations and Advertising and a minor in Women and Gender Studies, demonstrated interests and talents in all aspects of public relations. Through MediaLab, Kortney explored event planning and a variety of projects with non–profit organizations. For instance, Kortney performed video work for the Korean Women’s Association, created a centennial video for the national debate society, Pi Kappa Delta, and served as chief videographer and editor of the award–winning 2013 documentary “Tapped Out: Unearthing the Global Water Crisis.” Kortney also interned for the Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitor Bureau, where she helped plan networking events and assisted in a revamp of the organization’s website, worked as a Special Events Intern for the Pierce County AIDS Foundation, and interned at the University of Washington’s Burke Museum. In Spring 2014, Kortney served as a Marketing and Events intern for Concordia Lutheran School in Tacoma. Ultimately, Kortney hopes to work for a non–profit organization or advocacy group focused on women’s issues.
Katie, a Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations/Advertising and a religion minor, joined MediaLab in Spring 2011. Katie served as a member of MediaLab’s public relations team, as assistant general manager and was promoted to general manager in Spring 2013. Among many other activities, Katie specialized in event planning and promotion. She interned during Summer 2012 at Oak and Cypress Weddings and Events in Tacoma, Wash. In Summer 2013, she worked as a marketing intern for the Tacoma magazine publishing company Premier Media Group, and in Fall 2013, Katie interned at the Seattle advertising firm Copacino and Fujikado. In addition, Katie was a senior producer of MediaLab’s award–winning film “Tapped Out: Unearthing the Global Water Crisis,“ and served as a special assistant to Robert Marshall Wells, Ph.D., MediaLab’s co–founder and faculty adviser. Katie plans to pursue a career in the public relations or advertising industries.
