About this page

This page and the accuracy of its contents are my responsibility alone. All translations that appear here are my own. I first encountered Paul Bénichou's work in the 1980s while a graduate student in French at the University of California, Berkeley, and it was my privilege to know Paul Bénichou personally during the last fifteen years of his life. I have written several critical essays on his work and my unabridged translation of Le Sacre de l'écrivain, perhaps Bénichou's most important work, was published in the spring of 1999 by the University of Nebraska Press as The Consecration of the Writer, 1750-1830. I continue to study, translate, and write about Bénichou's work, and am presently translating Le Temps des prophètes. Questions, suggestions, criticisms from readers are welcome.
