Guitar Orchestra Rehearsal Pictures

In addition to the highly acclaimed choirs, various instrumental ensembles and jazz ensembles at PLU, there is also PLU Guitar Orchestra and Ensemble, which is open to guitarists and lutenists of various levels. Guitar Orchestra is open to anyone with basic guitar and music reading skills.  There are multiple players playing each part, and Professor Brown conducts in all performances and rehearsals. More advanced students (typically guitar/lute majors) also play in smaller, coached ensembles. Guitar Ensemble is also open to other instrumentalists and singers who are interested in working with guitarists/lutenists. In addition, there are regular performances of early and baroque music at PLU (including baroque opera), which lutenists are especially encouraged to participate in.

  2. Registration for new students is best done in person at the Music Department Office.  Repeat students can register online through Banner, though registering in person at the Music Office is also an option.  You can register for this class for 1 or 0 credits.  There are no auditions for this ensemble, but it is understood that students will have some guitar playing and music reading skills.  Please contact Professor Brown at brownec@plu.edu with questions.

  3. Rehearsal Times

  4. Guitar Orchestra rehearses on Thursday evenings, 5:30-6:15 PM in MBR 306.  Guitar Ensemble(s) rehearses immediately afterwards, 6:15-7:00 PM, also in MBR 306.

  5. Performances

  6. PLU Guitar Orchestra & Ensemble has a concert in Lagerquist Concert Hall every semester.  In addition, there is usually one chapel performance per semester and occasional run-out concerts.  Please see events.

  7. Instruments

  8. A standard classical (nylon-string) guitar is preferable, but steel-string acoustic guitars also work well.
